DUET Takes Third Place in UNIDO Global Call 2023 Award Ceremony

The China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai hosted the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Global Call 2023 Award Ceremony. In the Clean Energy Innovation category, the Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) was the recipient of the prestigious third place award.

The success of DUET brings attention to the groundbreaking progress achieved by Professor Zeeshan and his group, who developed an advanced Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) system to tackle obstacles in wind energy generation, specifically in areas characterized by low natural wind velocities.

Professor Zeeshan underscored the project’s primary objective, which is to augment the reliability of wind energy provision through the integration of an auxiliary system. By establishing a parallel with solar systems, he emphasized the sporadic quality of wind resources over the course of the year.

As an innovative supplement to the current infrastructure, the auxiliary system guarantees wind generation even in situations characterized by exceedingly low natural wind velocities. This revolutionary advancement incorporates a combination of man-made and natural wind resources, ensuring an uninterrupted provision of wind energy spanning from 300 to 1,000 volts.

Already, the deployment of this VAWT system in Karachi, Pakistan, its presentation at the CIEE’23, and the interest of international investors attest to its success. The technology’s adaptability presents potential for a wide range of uses, including supplying energy to marginalized communities, residential areas, hospitals, and commercial spaces, thereby harmonizing harmoniously with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations.

Key organizations, including Dawood University of Engineering and Technology, the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), HANDS Pakistan, medico international (Germany), Paktech Instruments Company, and Carol Technology, provided indispensable assistance to the innovative endeavor. Their steadfast support was crucial in the successful attainment of this extraordinary milestone.

This accomplishment not only serves as a testament to the DUET team’s brilliance, but also underscores the inventive capacity of Pakistan on an international scale.
