How to Cast Your Vote in General Elections 2024: A Step-By-Step Guide

In this guide, we will give you a step-by-step process on how to cast your vote in the general election in Pakistan, which was held on February 8, 2024.

The highly anticipated general elections will take place tomorrow across the country. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has completed all necessary preparations, which include the distribution of ballots.

Since a considerable proportion of the population would be exercising their inaugural vote, a considerable number of them would probably need to be made aware of the procedure. In this section, we will detail the complete process for casting the vote.

Locate Your Constituency

Send your National Identity Card (NIC) number to 8300. It will provide you with information such as the national and provincial assembly constituency numbers, polling locations, family numbers, and serial numbers.

Required Documents

The ECP has encouraged voters to carry their authentic CNIC when casting their vote. It is vital to note that individuals with expired CNICs can still vote.

Other documents, including a copy of the CNIC, will not be accepted.

Cellphones Access

ECP strictly prohibits people from bringing cell phones to voting places. People who want to vote have been told to leave their phones at home.

Voting Time

The voting will begin at 8:00 a.m. and continue until 5:00 p.m.

Queue and Verification Process

Stand out in line until it’s your turn. The Presiding Officer (PO) will check your name and voter ID number.

After your ID is checked, you will be given two votes: one for the local assembly and one for the national assembly. Also, the PO will cross your name off the list.

Sign and Stamp on Paper

Both votes need to have the POs’ (Polling Officer) signs and stamps on the back of them. Make sure that you sign and stamp your ballots because your vote won’t count without them.

Ballot Papers

People who want to vote will be given different ballots for the provincial and national assemblies. The green one will be for the national assembly, and the white one will be for the local assembly. The PO will use special ink to write down your thumbprint on the voter rolls.

Go to the voting booths.

Like on votes, there would be two different boxes for the votes of each assembly: one with a green cover for the national assembly and one with a white cover for the provincial assembly.

No Interference

Make sure that no one else is there or trying to get you to change your mind.

Make Sure the Ink is Dry

Ballot Paper folding Method

After you’ve marked both ballots, fold them in half. Before you fold them correctly, make sure the ink is dry. Also, make sure to fold your ballot paper in half lengthwise so that the ink doesn’t get on the spots for other candidates.

Cast Your Vote

To finish voting, put the green ballot paper in the box with the green cover and the white ballot paper in the box with the white cover.
