Omoda and Jaecoo’s Plan to Step into Pakistan

We told you last week that new cars from Chery International’s Omoda and Jaecoo names will be coming to Pakistan. Now, in a live stream just for us, Mr. Ryan Wang, who is in charge of the Omoda and Jaecoo brands, gave us more information about the Omoda E5 EV and the Jaecoo J7 PHEV.
Because of its looks and features, the Omoda E5 is a popular EV that is aimed at Gen-Z buyers and a younger crowd. While the Jaecoo J7 PHEV is more of a high-end, off-road luxury SUV aimed at wealthy people,.
Chery International says that the J7 PHEV has better styling, bigger touch screens, better driver assist features, and better off-roading than its competitors because it has a locking differential. This should give it an advantage in the Pakistani market.
Omoda E5 and Pakistan’s Charging Infrastructure
At the same time, the Omoda E5 will be up against the MG ZS EV, which has a similar range and base. Bangladesh doesn’t have enough charging stations for electric cars, so Omoda will build them in Bangladesh’s biggest towns.
Price and Launch Details
For Pakistan, no prices have been set in stone yet. The prices should be reasonable, and they will go after cars with similar specs, like the Toyota Corolla Cross and the Hyundai Santa Fe. The Omoda E5 will go after the MG ZS EV because it is its main rival.
Keep in mind that the Omoda E5 will cost around Rs. 1 crore in Malaysia, and the price of the Jaecoo J7 PHEV hasn’t been set yet. Due to customs and taxes, prices in Pakistan will be a little higher.
According to Mr. Ryan Wang, they want to start these two vehicles as soon as possible in Pakistan. By the second half of 2024, the exact start date might be set.
Chery’s Presence in Pakistan
At the moment, Ghandhara Automobiles in Pakistan builds and sells two Chery cars: the Tiggo 4 Pro and the Tiggo 8 Pro.
There’s a good reason for Chery International to have big plans for the Pakistani market. By 2023, the business had made CNY300 billion. For the past 21 years, Chery has been China’s biggest producer of passenger cars, sending out almost a million cars in a single year.
